The Center for Medicine, Health, and Society (MHS) in the College of Arts & Science at Vanderbilt University invites applications for the position of tenure-track assistant professor with expertise in the social and cultural aspects of medicine and health. Primary appointments will be in MHS with secondary appointments possible in a number of Vanderbilt’s academic departments. MHS is an innovative research and teaching center that applies humanities and social science methods to biomedical questions. Interdisciplinary social scientists doing work on health equities or disparities, the politics of global health or public health, health policies or economies, structural competency, or medicine and social justice are particularly invited to apply. Primary responsibilities include teaching and mentorship in undergraduate and graduate programs, participating in multidisciplinary research/grant teams, and helping build transinstitutional connections between MHS, the Vanderbilt Medical Center, and the Nashville community at-large.
Review of applications will begin on October 15, 2014, and continue until the position is filled. The appointments will begin fall 2015. Ph.D. required by the time of appointment.
